TODAY’S VERSE: Matthew 13:23

“The seed cast on good earth is the person who hears and takes in the News, and then produces a harvest beyond his wildest dreams.” [The Message (MSG) Copyright © 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson]

“As for what was sown on good soil, this is he who hears the Word and grasps and comprehends it; he indeed bears fruit and yields in one case a hundred times as much as was sown, in another sixty times as much, and in another thirty.” [Amplified Bible (AMP) Copyright © 1954, 1958, 1962, 1964, 1965, 1987 by The Lockman Foundation]

TODAY’S MESSAGE

Matthew 13 records Jesus sharing the parable of the Sower to His people. According to this parable, the type of ground each seed is exposed to is a determining factor to the life of that seed. It does not matter how much seed is placed on a certain place, the quality and fertility of the soil is going to significantly affect the end result of the sowing process.

As Jesus later explains this parable’s meaning (Matthew 13:18-23), He clearly points out that the seed is God’s Word and the ground or soil is our human heart. Thus, the attitude and receptivity of our heart toward God’s Word will greatly determine how this Seed is going to germinate and produce fruit at its right timing.

Considering this biblical principle, we need to ask ourselves every day, “What type of soil conditions are present in my heart today?” Is my heart a good soil, where God’s Word is well planted and bringing forth fruitfulness, or are my attitudes selfishly showing a rocky ground on which the Word cannot grow? The awesome truth here is that, as we search our hearts and surrender to God’s will on a daily basis, our heart’s condition is being “transformed” in Jesus’ likeness and becoming good, fertile ground. This is highly important since our fruit will affect those around us who will “eat” from it. And people need to “eat” Jesus from our spiritual “trees” in order to be part of God’s Kingdom and become the people God designed them to be.

Choose every day what type of soil your heart will be. And keep producing great fruit for God, remembering always that… the height, extension and fruition of your personal tree will always be the inevitable result of the deepness, extension and nutrition of its roots.

TODAY’S PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for planting the seed of Your Word in my heart. Help me each day to search the deepest thoughts and motives of my heart and allow your Word to grow in me and produce the fruit you need me to produce. As I yield my own selfish desires to Your will, allow me to be a blameless spiritual tree so that those around me may eat of Your goodness and come to know Jesus. In His precious name I pray and give thanks, amen.
